Weyburn Arts Council and Signal Hill Arts Centre has organized a public art installation for along the Boardwalk and Boardwalk Extension areas of Weyburn entitled
“Our Canada: A Celebration of 150 Years”
The project will include 16 banners, featuring original artwork with a Canadian theme by local artists, and will be installed in September of 2017 to correspond with Culture Days (September 29th, 30th and October 1st). To supplement the banner project, a booklet featuring the art and artists involved in the exhibit will be available at the Soo Line Museum, which is also the starting point for the “Art Walk”.
Submissions are open to all ages, and all mediums. Artists must live in the Weyburn area. A jury consisting of Weyburn residents will decide on the winners. The winning pieces will each be printed on a separate banner. Application forms are currently available at the Signal Hill Arts Centre and the Allie Griffin Art Gallery and by clicking HERE. Application deadline is June 19th, 2017.
Inspiration for this project came from a similar project done in High River, Alberta. You can find information about this project at: http://www.highriverlibrary.ca/content/banner-project.
