POLLS OPEN FROM 9:00 A.M. TO 8:00 P.M.

On October 22, 2003, voters are encouraged to go to the polls to elect one Mayor, six Councillors, five Public School Board Members and three Separate School Board Members.  The polling stations will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

An Advance Poll will be held in the foyer of City Hall on Thursday, October 16th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday, October 18th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

WHO CAN VOTE

ALL QUALIFIED ELECTORS MAY VOTE FOR THE ELECTION OF MAYOR, COUNCILLORS, PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS (SUNRISE SCHOOL DIVISION NO. 145), AND SEPARATE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS (HOLY FAMILY ROMAN CATHOLIC SEPARATE SCHOOL DIVISION NO. 140).

YOU CAN REGISTER TO VOTE FOR MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS IF YOU:

1. are a Canadian citizen on the day of the election;

2. are at least 18 years of age on the day of the election;

3. have resided in the City of Weyburn, or on land now in the City of Weyburn, for at least three months;
or
    are the owner of assessable land situated in the City of Weyburn, or of land now situated in the City of Weyburn, and have been owner of said land for at least three months; and

4. have resided in Saskatchewan for at least six months.

YOU CAN REGISTER TO VOTE FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD IF YOU:

1. are a Canadian citizen;

2. are at least 18 years of age on the day of the election;

3. have resided in the school division, or on land that is now in the school division, for at least three months;

4. have resided in Saskatchewan for at least six months; and

5. have not registered to vote for the separate school board.

YOU CAN REGISTER TO VOTE FOR THE SEPARATE SCHOOL BOARD IF YOU:

1. are a Canadian citizen;

2. are at least 18 years of age on the day of the election;

3. have resided in the school division, or on land that is now in the school division, for at least three months;

4. have resided in Saskatchewan for at least six months; and

5. are of the faith of the minority that established the separate school division; ie, if the separate school division was established for people of the Roman Catholic faith, then you must be of the Roman Catholic faith if you wish to register to vote for the separate school board.

RULES OF RESIDENCE (for the purposes of the Local Government Election Act)

WHERE TO VOTE

Located on the Election Map is the polling area in which you reside. Note that polling area boundaries run down the center of the street. If you live on the boundary of a polling area, you vote at the poll on the same side of the boundary as you live.

You may vote only at the polling place for the polling area in which you reside on election day. If you go to a poll other than that of where you reside, you will be directed to the proper poll.

School Division Electors residing beyond the corporate limits of the City of Weyburn, entitled to vote for Board of Education Members only, MUST vote at Poll No. 4 at Souris School.

HOW TO VOTE

When you arrive at the polling station, you will be asked to complete a voter’s registration form.  Click here for a sample voter's registration form. 

Qualified voters will receive the following:

  • A ballot for Mayor for the City of Weyburn. Select one name only. Mark your  choice with an X.
  • A ballot for Councillors for the City of Weyburn. Select up to six names. Mark your choices with an X.
  • Public School Electors will receive a ballot for Board Members for the Sunrise School Division No. 145.  Select up to five names.  Mark your choices with an X.
  • Separate School Electors will receive a ballot for Board Members for the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division No. 140.  Select up to three names.  Mark your choices with an X.

***It is important to note that your ballot will not be rejected because you have voted for less than the maximum number allowed.  For example, it is permissible to vote for only two councillors or school board candidates. However, your ballot will be rejected if you choose more than the maximum number of candidates allowed.
