WEYBURN – the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society Weyburn Branch has teamed up with the City of Weyburn to install a marker (sign/gate) on the east side of the Saskatchewan Mental Health Hospital (SMH) Cemetery located just north of Hillcrest Cemetery. This marker will designate that area of the cemetery where mental hospital patients are laid to rest.
The official unveiling of the marker took place at the SMH Cemetery, Thursday, November 14, at 1 p.m. Members of the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society Weyburn, M&R Machines, Eastway Auto body, as well as City Councillor Dick Michel and staff from the City of Weyburn were in attendance for photos of the unveiling.
The marker was designed by Harvey Johnson and Wes Lonoway. The sign was provided by the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society Weyburn Branch through grants from the Weyburn Credit union and fundraising. The site preparation and sign installation was completed by City of Weyburn Parks Department Staff. Fabrication of the marker was completed by M&R Machines and painting was completed by Eastway Auto body.
