WEYBURN – The Weyburn Arts Council is proud to announce the creation of a large, public art mural to be featured on the North exterior wall of Fuel and Kat’s Shop.
Murals of this type can be found in various communities that have vibrant and thriving arts communities, such as Moose Jaw, Last Mountain, and Winnipeg. The creation of such a mural would highlight the City’s commitment and support of our arts community, as well as beautifying our surroundings.
A mural design contest was announced on January 16th. It is open to all residents of Weyburn and the surrounding area. The finished mural will measure 24 by 18 feet (A ratio of 4 by 3). The winning design will be culturally inclusive and have a subject matter tied to Weyburn. We are looking for graphic, colourful designs that look to the future. Please take into consideration the ability of the community to reproduce your design. The winning design will be awarded a $1000 cash prize.
Timeline for the mural project is as follows:
Community Announcement: January 16th
Deadline for Design Entries: March 31st
Announcement of Winning Design: April 17th
Installation: June 20th during the Show n Shine Public
Unveiling: July 1st
The mural will be painted as a community, during the Show n Shine car show, as a giant paint by number. Members of Weyburn Arts Council will prepare the mural boards, paint the outlines, and number each area. During the creation event, jars of premixed and numbered paint will be available to anyone wishing to take part.
