WEYBURN – Weyburn Police Service (WPS) is reminding drivers that parking in back lanes and alleys is prohibited with very limited exceptions under the Traffic Bylaw.
Specific areas in the City drawing concern are parks and walk-up businesses like food trucks and ice cream shops.
Lanes and alleys are intended to give access to the rear of a property and are to be utilized primarily for loading and unloading. Drivers are also reminded that parking in “No parking” zones, blocking driveways and using private property without the permission of the owner are all actions against the law.
Many events and spaces are opening for the summer and pedestrian safety becomes a major concern when drivers do not park appropriately. Please be mindful where you are parking when visiting parks, City facilities, garage sales and local businesses.
Another concern is vehicle speed in these areas, including school zones and other recreational areas. The WPS will be increasing their presence and enforcement in these areas in an effort to keep our community safe.
