WEYBURN – The City of Weyburn Youth Council is excited to announce its donation to the Weyburn Theatre Community Service Cooperative’s “Prairie Sky Co-op Walk of Fame.”
This contribution, made on behalf of both the City of Weyburn and the Youth Council, underscores their unwavering commitment to the development of the new theatre for Weyburn. The announcement will be made on June 27 at 1 p.m. at the future site of the theatre.
The Walk of Fame, represented by sponsored floor tiles in the new theatre’s lobby, celebrates significant contributions to the project.
Since the closure of the Soo Line Theatre in 2017, the absence of a movie theatre in Weyburn has been a recurring topic of discussion among the Weyburn Youth Council. The Youth Council has been particularly dedicated to addressing this need, with a Youth Councillor appointed to the Weyburn Theatre Board to ensure the youth perspective is well represented.
“This project is more than just a building. It’s about restoring a community space where memories will be made, especially for the youth in our community. We are honoured to contribute and excited to see the impact this new theatre will have on our city,” said Weyburn Youth Mayor Nikola Erasmus.
“City of Weyburn Youth Council has been advocating for a new theatre since the moment the Soo closed its doors. They have provided us with valuable insights from one of the key demographics eventually using the new facility. We share their passion for making Weyburn a better place to live and truly appreciate their enthusiasm for this project. We are thankful for their support and hope this encourages others to follow their lead through sponsorship of a star, seat, or another element of this project,” said Sean Purdue, Treasurer of the Board.
