Released October 10, 2024
The City of Weyburn is providing an important update regarding the closure of the Weyburn Leisure Centre (WLC) as we continue to address the significant issues within the pool basin and related structures.
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) analysis was conducted on the pool structure. The findings identified failures in the pool basin, hot tub, and pool deck areas. As a result, the indoor portion of the Weyburn Leisure Centre will remain closed for the remainder of 2024, with no definitive timeline for reopening as we work through the necessary repairs.
Our team has engaged in initial discussions regarding the next steps. We will provide further updates as we move through this process.
In response to community feedback, starting October 15, 2024, we will extend the Credit Union Spark Centre’s operating hours to open at 6:00 AM. This adjustment is aimed at accommodating patrons who previously used the WLC for early morning swims.
Membership Options for WLC Pass Holders: To support our members during this extended closure, we are offering the following options:
- Pause Membership: Members can freeze their WLC membership until the facility reopens.
- Transfer Membership: Members can transfer their WLC membership to the Credit Union Spark Centre.
- Pro-rated Refund: Members can opt to receive a pro-rated refund for the remainder of their membership term.
“We understand this situation is far from ideal and we are exploring all available options to address the issues,” said Leisure Services Director, Andrew Crowe. “Unfortunately, this will be a lengthy process, as the necessary repairs are extensive. We appreciate the community’s patience as we work through these challenges to bring an indoor pool back to Weyburn as soon as possible.”
The City of Weyburn is committed to keeping the community informed as we work towards a solution.
We thank our residents for their continued patience and understanding.
