The City of Weyburn is taking a vital step forward in becoming a more inclusive and accessible community with the development of its first Accessibility Plan.
Guided by the principles of collaboration, consultation and a commitment to removing barriers, the City is inviting residents, businesses and community organizations to participate in a short public survey launching on April 14.
This initiative stems from the Accessible Saskatchewan Act, which requires all public sector bodies to develop accessibility plans by December 2025. The Act, introduced in 2022 and passed in May 2023, is designed to remove and prevent barriers, ensuring all people can fully participate in daily activities, work, and play.
The Accessibility Plan supports the City’s vision of being a “Community for all” and aligns with its mission of “Growing through opportunity.” It will also ensure the City complies with provincial legislation while promoting equal participation, enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors, and fostering a culture of respect, diversity and community pride.
Public participation is key. The survey will help the City better understand the experiences, challenges and ideas that matter most to the community. Feedback gathered will inform the development of a plan that is responsive, practical and meaningful.
The public survey will be available on the City’s Engagement webpage starting April 14: weyburn.ca/engage
