Foundation Raises Required Amount for Community Contribution
Weyburn, SK — The community contribution required for construction of the new Weyburn General Hospital has been reduced from 20% to 10% following the provincial government’s announcement of the Patients First Health Care Plan on Monday, March 9. As a result, the Weyburn & District Hospital Foundation is thrilled to announce it has raised the full amount required for the community’s share of construction.
Since 2009, the Foundation has been working toward a $30 million fundraising goal. Of that total, $20 million was originally designated for the community’s share of construction costs, while the
remaining $10 million was allocated for furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
With the community’s contribution now reduced to $14,860,000, the Foundation is proud to confirm it has successfully raised the required amount for construction.
“Reaching this milestone is truly incredible,” said Jeff Hayward, Foundation Board Chair. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Premier, Cabinet, and the provincial government, as well as the
City of Weyburn, local municipalities, businesses, and individuals whose support made this achievement possible. Reducing the community contribution from 20% to a 10% cost share is
exciting news—not only for the new Weyburn General Hospital project, but for the province as a whole.”
“We are grateful for the Government of Saskatchewan’s decision to reduce the community share for new hospital construction and make the road ahead more achievable for communities like
Weyburn,” said City of Weyburn Mayor Jeff Richards. “The commitment shown by our community, donors, partners and surrounding municipalities to reach the Foundation’s goal says a great deal about the people of Weyburn and this corner of the province. This decision eases the pressure on local taxpayers and helps move forward a hospital that will serve residents across the region for years to come.”
The Foundation will continue its work in preparation for the hospital’s opening, including finalizing the donor wall and naming and recognition within the new facility.
Individuals interested in naming and recognition opportunities are encouraged to contact Whitney Johnson, Office Manager, for more information.
Moving forward, the Foundation will continue raising funds to secure essential equipment and amenities for the new hospital, ensuring that residents in Weyburn and the surrounding region have
access to exceptional care.
