Weyburn, SK (April 15, 2026) – The Host Organizing Committee for the 2028 Saskatchewan Summer Games has officially been named, marking a significant milestone in the lead-up to the provincial multi-sport event, which will be hosted in the City of Weyburn in the summer of 2028.
Each edition of the Saskatchewan Games is delivered by a dedicated Host Organizing Committee made up of local volunteers and community leaders. This group plays a central role in planning and staging the Games, including coordinating venues, recruiting and supporting volunteers, managing accommodations and transportation, and creating a welcoming and memorable experience for thousands of athletes, coaches, officials, and visitors from across the province.
The committee held its inaugural planning meeting on March 31, launching the collaborative effort that will span the next several years in preparation for the Games.
The committee will be led by the following volunteers:
- Ryan Fowler: Chairperson
- Jason Roy: Vice Chair; Director of Medical Services
- Brooke Charlton: Director of Administration & Finance; Treasurer
- Connie Barsness: Director of Athlete Services
- Tina Clay: Director of Ceremonies & Culture; Secretary
- Lisa Vick: Director of Food Services
- Britney Fisher: Director of Friends of the Games (Sponsorship/Donations)
- Jola Bell-Erb: Director of Information Technology
- Sandy McCormick: Director of Logistics
- Niki Nagy: Director of Marketing & Communications
- Tyler Hillstead: Director of Sport & Venues
- Lisa Dennis: Director of Volunteers
- Nicole Clow: Saskatchewan Games Council Representative
- Todd Bedore: City of Weyburn Council Representative
- Richard Henning: City of Weyburn City Representative
- Terri Stadnek: City of Weyburn City Representative
The next steps for the committee include incorporating as a nonprofit organization, kickstarting plans for Games legacy projects, and finalizing the dates of the Games. The committee will look to recruit additional core volunteers over the coming months and years to assist with every aspect of Games planning, with a wider Games-time community volunteer drive taking place in the months prior to the event.
The 2028 Saskatchewan Summer Games will bring together upwards of 1,800 participants and 5,000 spectators from every corner of the province. The weeklong event will be supported by over 1,000 community volunteers and will drive up to $7 million to the local economy through tourism spending, capital investment, and upgrades to sport facilities and equipment.
The 2028 Saskatchewan Summer Games will feature 13 sports: Archery, Athletics, Baseball (M), Basketball (M & F), Canoe Kayak, Soccer (M & F), Softball (F), Special Olympics – Bocce, Swimming, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball (M & F), and Rowing, which is returning to the Saskatchewan Games program after last being featured in 1996. Age categories will vary by sport, but athletes will generally fall between the ages of 11-17. Sport technical packages will be released later this year and will include specifics on age eligibility for each sport.
The City of Weyburn will be provided with a $550,000 Hosting Grant by the Saskatchewan Games Council, the permanent regulatory body of the Saskatchewan Games program. Additionally, hosting the Games will deliver upwards of $500,000 of investment into new and upgraded sport facilities and equipment through the Council’s matching Games Legacy Grant.
Weyburn last hosted the biennial youth sporting event in 2004. A major legacy of those Games was the new athletics track built adjacent to Weyburn Comprehensive School, which left the city and surrounding communities with a high-quality facility that has drawn many athletics events to Weyburn in the years since. Olympians Marsha Hudey and Chelsea Valois and Paralympians Erica Gavel and Miranda Biletski competed in the 2004 Games.
This past February, Flying Dust First Nation and the City of Meadow Lake co-hosted the 2026 Saskatchewan Winter Games, marking the first time in the biennial program’s 54-year history that a city and First Nation partnered to host the event.

We want to create an environment where they feel supported, challenged in competition, and welcomed by a community that’s proud to host them. We’re grateful to the Saskatchewan Games Council and the City of Weyburn for the opportunity to help bring this event to life.” – Chairperson of the Weyburn Host Organizing Committee Ryan Fowler
