Weyburn Fire Department responds to significant structure fire
The Weyburn Fire Department (WFD) was dispatched to a structure fire on the 500 block of 5th St. at 9:02 a.m. and arrived shortly afterward. Crews encountered significant fire conditions, with flames extending through the roof, requiring an initial defensive response and the use of aerial streams.
One person was already outside the residence and receiving care from EMS when fire crews arrived. The Weyburn Fire Department commends the brave actions of Weyburn Police Service (WPS) officers and local residents who assisted at the scene.
Four fire units and 16 responders were involved in the response. Additional personnel remained on standby at the fire hall with support from the Yellow Grass Fire Department.
The fire was brought under control at 10:19 a.m. Crews remained on scene until approximately 5:30 p.m. to complete fire suppression operations and monitor the structure for remaining hot spots. Provincial investigators arrived at that time.
WFD extends gratitude to all partners who provided aid and support at this incident including WPS, RCMP, EMS and City of Weyburn Public Works.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Further information will be shared once available.
