Public feedback will help shape how the City cares for, grows and invests in public trees
The City of Weyburn is inviting residents to share their priorities for the care and growth of the community’s urban forest starting Aug. 5, 2026.
The City is developing a new Urban Forestry Management Plan in partnership with project consultant Green Drop Tree Care. The plan will provide long-term direction for managing public trees and guide decisions related to tree maintenance, planting and investment in the City’s urban forestry program.
“Weyburn’s trees are an important part of the health and livability of our community,” said Parks Manager Curtis Block. “Public feedback will help us better understand what residents value and where they would like to see the City focus its efforts in the years ahead.”
The City and Green Drop Tree Care partnered to secure funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities for the $131,000 project. The funding will cover $104,800 (80 per cent) of the project cost, with the City contributing the remaining $26,200.
The first phase of the project involved creating an inventory of City-owned trees and is nearing completion. Public consultation is the next phase, providing residents and community stakeholders with an opportunity to share their priorities and help inform the development of the plan.
Through the survey, residents can provide input on topics including:
- the care and maintenance of existing public trees;
- opportunities to expand tree planting efforts; and
- priorities for future investment in urban forestry.
Feedback collected through the survey will be considered alongside an assessment of Weyburn’s existing urban forest and recommendations from the project consultant. Together, this information will help establish practical goals and priorities for the new management plan.
The survey is available online here and will remain open from Aug. 5 to Sept. 2.
Residents are encouraged to participate and help the City grow a greener, healthier and more resilient urban forest for the future.
