As of Thursday, Aug. 24, the intersection of 1st Ave NE and 16th St. will be under construction. This work will take approximately three weeks. Local and truck route detours will be in place.
The first stage involves underground construction on a portion of 16th St. The closure will expand to a full intersection closure on Tuesday, Aug. 29 (see local detour and truck route maps below).
This project aims to repair deteriorating asphalt and increase level of service in the area. A turning lane and bypass lane for the south service road will assist southbound traffic flow on 16th St.
Long-term plans for the intersection include installation of traffic lights. This will prolong the life of the asphalt by decreasing the stopping/starting of heavy trucks, which creates rutting in the asphalt.
The City appreciates the patience of the public during this project and asks drivers to avoid the area when travelling.
