WEYBURN – The City of Weyburn has received funding from the Government of Saskatchewan to rehabilitate the Weyburn Airport. This funding, allocated through the Community Airport Program (CAP) within the provincial budget, covers up to 50% of all improvement costs.
The CAP program supports communities like Weyburn in rehabilitation, construction, and capital improvements of airport infrastructure. The City of Weyburn applied for rehabilitation funding to ensure the airport surfaces remain in safe conditions for aircraft and flight operations.
“The airport is a vital component to rural Saskatchewan. It provides access to life saving medical transportation like STARS and Air Ambulance. It supports a strong robust economy with commercial operations and recreational flyers. The City of Weyburn is committed to a continued investment into the airport that provides vital services to our citizens and surrounding area. Through the Government of Saskatchewan and their funding of CAP, we are able to ensure our airport infrastructure remains in top condition,” said Director of Engineering Jennifer Wilkinson.
Ensuring the upkeep of existing airport infrastructure remains a top priority for the Weyburn Airport in 2024. Recent assessments have revealed cracking along taxiways, runways, and aprons. Repairs to these surfaces will include crack sealing, spot repair, and repaving sections of asphalt to address current cracking issues. The essential repairs funded through CAP will extend the lifespan of airport surfaces, ensuring continued safety and efficiency for flight operations.
The City will provide updates on the CAP project as details become available.
The City of Weyburn is committed to keeping its residents informed about construction projects and their progress. Up-to-date information on projects, news and announcements can be found at www.weyburn.ca.
