City of Weyburn Announces Reopening of 1st Avenue Following Major Reconstruction
Weyburn – The City of Weyburn is pleased to announce the reopening of 1st Avenue, which has undergone significant reconstruction since work began on July 8. The project, a key initiative to improve the city’s infrastructure, has been successfully completed, and the road is now open for public use.
Throughout the project, 13 blocks of 1st Avenue were repaved, improving the conditions of this major Weyburn roadway. A complete rebuild was necessary between 5th Street to 10th Street, addressing underlying structural issues that were critical to ensure the long-term integrity of 1st Avenue.
Originally, the project was scheduled to be completed in 60 days but thanks to the concerted efforts of the construction teams and favorable weather conditions, the road has been reopened in advance of this timeline.
“We are very excited with the outcome of this project,” said Renée Cugnet, Director of Engineering for the City of Weyburn. “The reconstruction of 1st Avenue was essential to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our major roadways. I want to thank our Public Works Team, the contractors, and the community for their cooperation and support throughout the process.”
The City thanks the residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation throughout the construction period. The completed work on 1st Avenue represents a significant improvement in the city’s road network, contributing to smoother traffic flow and increased safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
