WEYBURN, SK – Today, Saskatchewan Highways Minister David Marit and Weyburn Mayor Jeff Richards announced the provincial government and the city are partnering to improve Highway 35.
The city will tender and manage a project to rehabilitate 2.42 km of Highway 35 from First Avenue North to the north corporate limit of Weyburn.
Under the Ministry of Highways’ Urban Highway Connector Program, the province will fund 70 per cent of the project from First Avenue to Fifth Avenue (0.7 km) and 100 per cent of project from Fifth Avenue to the city limit (1.72 km). The city will fund the remainder.
The cost and start date will be known after the project is awarded to a contractor.
“Our government is proud to play a role in this project moving forward to improve transportation for Weyburn area residents and shippers who use this route to get our goods to worldwide markets and keep Saskatchewan’s export-based economy moving,” Marit said.
“This project reflects a great deal of behind-the-scenes work on a corridor that’s been top of mind for many residents. We’re pleased to see progress moving forward through a strong partnership with the Ministry of Highways. We’re grateful for the province’s investment and proud to see improvements that support both safety and the long-term needs of our community,” Richards said.
