WEYBURN, SK – The City of Weyburn issued a city-wide Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory (PDWA) the morning of March 31 following a temporary loss of water pressure within the distribution system.
An automated system issue at the Water Treatment Plant temporarily interrupted monitoring and control processes, affecting water pressure and disinfection capacity. Once identified, City crews responded immediately, manually restored system pressure in a controlled manner, and stabilized the water distribution network.
In accordance with Water Security Agency (WSA) protocol, a PDWA was issued city-wide at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Under provincial regulations, a significant depressurization event requires a precautionary advisory until water quality is confirmed to be safe.
The advisory will remain in effect until laboratory testing verifies provincial drinking water standards. The City expects to receive test results by Saturday, at which time WSA will determine whether conditions have been met to lift the advisory.
Residents will be informed immediately once new information is available. The City recognizes the inconvenience this advisory causes and thanks residents for their patience. Protecting public health remains the City’s top priority.
It is important to note:
- The advisory is a result of depressurization, not a result of confirmed contamination.
- The advisory is required because there is a potential risk, even if water quality appears unchanged.
- Residents are reminded to boil water to be used for activities where it may be ingested, including brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking, ice cubes, water fountains, and washing dishes.
