The Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory (PDWA) for the City of Weyburn remains in effect following initial laboratory results received Saturday, April 4.
Based on those results, additional water sampling is required before the Water Security Agency can determine whether the advisory can be lifted. This is part of the required process to confirm the water system meets provincial drinking water standards following the March 31 depressurization event.
Residents and businesses must continue to follow all boil water advisory requirements until further notice. This includes surrounding communities under the Weyburn Utility Board that receive City of Weyburn water.
Water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, making ice, washing dishes and any other activity where it may be ingested must be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use.
Additional sampling is now underway, and results are expected in the coming days. The City will provide a further update as soon as the Water Security Agency has reviewed the next round of results.
The City understands this is frustrating for residents and businesses and thanks the community for continuing to take the necessary precautions while the advisory remains in effect.
Thank you to City staff and Water Security Agency who have been working diligently on this issue.

The City of Weyburn issued a city-wide Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory (PDWA) the morning of March 31 following a temporary loss of water pressure within the distribution system.
An automated system issue at the Water Treatment Plant temporarily interrupted monitoring and control processes, affecting water pressure and disinfection capacity. Once identified, City crews responded immediately, manually restored system pressure in a controlled manner, and stabilized the water distribution network.
In accordance with Water Security Agency (WSA) protocol, a PDWA was issued city-wide at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Under provincial regulations, a significant depressurization event requires a precautionary advisory until water quality is confirmed to be safe.
The advisory will remain in effect until laboratory testing verifies provincial drinking water standards. The City expects to receive test results by Saturday, at which time WSA will determine whether conditions have been met to lift the advisory.
Residents will be informed immediately once new information is available. The City recognizes the inconvenience this advisory causes and thanks residents for their patience. Protecting public health remains the City’s top priority.
It is important to note:
- The advisory is a result of depressurization, not a result of confirmed contamination.
- The advisory is required because there is a potential risk, even if water quality appears unchanged.
- Residents are reminded to boil water to be used for activities where it may be ingested, including brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking, ice cubes, water fountains, and washing dishes.
For advisory instructions and ongoing updates, residents are encouraged to register for Weyburn Alerts.
