On Sunday afternoon, Nov. 23, a fire occurred on the main Zamboni at the City of Weyburn ice arenas. Due to the prompt response by City staff and the Weyburn Fire Department, the incident was brought under control, preventing further damage.
The City is incredibly proud of the quick actions of our rink staff and extends our gratitude to their professionalism. We would also like to thank:
- U15 teams, fans, and patrons for calmly following evacuation instructions and giving staff the time needed to assess and address the issue.
- Weyburn Fire Department for their rapid dispatch and assistance.
- Local towing company for quickly removing the damaged Zamboni.
Rink activities resumed Sunday after a short delay, and the City’s outdoor Zamboni will be used for indoor operations in the interim. The damaged Zamboni is currently under inspection and repair.
The City appreciates the understanding and support of the public as we work to ensure continued safe operations. This outcome is a testament to the teamwork and preparedness of our community.
