The City is responsible for more than 7,000 public trees and provides ongoing care through planting, pruning, monitoring, pest and disease management, and the removal of dead or declining trees.

Weyburn’s urban forest includes City-owned trees in parks, along boulevards and residential streets, and on the grounds of City facilities.

An Urban Forestry Management Plan helps align the City’s priorities and resources while supporting the continued health and growth of public trees. Urban forestry plans are commonly used to coordinate tree care, planting, policies, long-term maintenance and monitoring.

The City and Green Drop Tree Care partnered to secure funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities for the $131,000 project. The funding will cover $104,800 (80 per cent) of the project cost, with the City contributing the remaining $26,200.

The City of Weyburn is developing an Urban Forestry Management Plan in partnership with Green Drop Tree Care. The new plan will provide a coordinated, long-term approach to caring for existing trees and planning for future growth.

Through this survey, residents can share their priorities for caring for existing trees, expanding planting efforts and investing in the urban forestry program. Feedback will help the City and Green Drop Tree Care understand what residents value and where they see opportunities to strengthen the program.
