Aquatic Feasibility Study

The City of Weyburn is developing an Aquatic Feasibility Study to assess the best path forward to meet aquatic needs in the city.

The feasibility study is an important step in the process to ensure prudent and responsible decision making given the significant municipal investment that will be needed. This study will explore enhancements to service delivery and all facility design possibilities, including facility repairs and modernization, potential expansion, and the construction of a new aquatic facility.

Whether you’re a regular at the pool, a parent of a young swimmer, a fitness enthusiast or someone who has never used a pool – we want to hear from you.

Background

The City of Weyburn Leisure Centre is home to an indoor swimming pool built in 1989, with a modern outdoor pool built in 2010. The indoor pool had been operating September to May, with the outdoor pool operating June to August providing year-round aquatic opportunities for residents and visitors from the region.

During the regular process to reopen the indoor pool for September 2024, significant damage to the pool basin was discovered and it was determined that the structure was no longer sound. This led to the required closure of the indoor pool.

The City of Weyburn is undertaking this process to explore the possibilities of repair, remodel or replacement of the current indoor pool. The City has engaged consultants to provide a comprehensive plan for the future of aquatics in Weyburn.

  • Research is essential to understanding the City’s context, including demographics, policies, aquatic trends, utilization patterns, and financial considerations.
  • Public engagement complements the research by understanding the current needs and the demand for aquatic services and facilities of City residents and all facility users.
What is being asked of the public?

Resident input is at the core of this feasibility study and will help shape the future of aquatics in the City. To support this, we are launching a public survey on April 22, 2025 to gather feedback from residents.
